DOWN
AND DIRTY REVIEWS: ATARI 7800 SUPER SYSTEM
Good games here, but not great
by any means. There are some new ones like Choplifter and F-18 Hornet.......
but they totally suck! The scores are out of 100.

ONE ON ONE featuring Dr.J vs. Larry Bird (Atari/EA, 1989)
In this fun but short lived basketball game it's just
Dr. J vs. Larry Bird one on one (hence the name) so don't alot from this basketball
title although it has a lot of options.

47 ASTERIODS (Atari, 1980-1987)
Better detail and more options on this 1980's shooter.
Still the same game of Asteriods though, even after all these years.

1 or 2players
graphics: 5

38 CENTIPEDE (Atari, 1987)
Not too different from the 2600version. This game
has really aged and I wonder why Atari even released it again.
For
1 or 2players
graphics: 3
sound: 3

13 CHOPLIFTER (Atari)
A boring helicopter shooter with crappy controls and
annoying rescue missions. Even the Sega Master system version of Choplifter
is better than this.
For 1player only
graphics:5
sound:2

31 CROSSBOW (Atari)
A light gun game that can't compare with Duck Hunt or Safari Hunt on rival
game machines.
For
1 or 2players

57 DARK CHAMBERS (Atari, 1988)
A guantlet style adventure game with slower gameplay.

A near perfect arcade version of the dirty Namco classic.

52 DONKEY KONG (Atari/Nintendo, 1988)
There is a still a missing level from the original game but it's almost
like the arcade. The 7800 controller is too inresponsive for this game.
For
1 or 2players
graphics: 5

55 DONKEY KONG JR. (Atari/Nintendo, 1988)
A almost perfect arcade port with all the four levels. The sound is little
a weak through.

09 F-18 HORNET (Alsolute)
a 3D flight simulator for the 7800....... why? Good graphics at least.
BEST ATARI 7800 GAME!!
65 FOOD FIGHT (Atari, 1987)
It's very goofy
fun. Guide the kid with the big head over
to the ice cream cone on the left side of the screen before it melts and those
evil kitchen chefs will try everything to stop you from getting it, even throw
food at you. Fortunately for you, your hero can throw food too. Nail those chefs!
A very original and arcade like game for the 7800.

53 GALAGA (Atari/Namco,
1987)
It's a little
slower than the arcade or NES versions, but it's mostly all here. A great classic
shoot em up by Namco in 1981.
For
1 or 2players
graphics: 4
sound: 4

37 IKARI WARRIORS (Atari/SNK,
1989)
Choppy framerate with low detail on this classic
arcade overhead war shooter by SNK.

30 JINKS (Atari, 1988)
It's like a new age Pong, but it's too annoying
to play thanks to that annoying bouncing ball that always gets lost.
For
1 or 2players
graphics: 4
sound: 4
gameplay: 2
54 JOUST (Atari/Williams, 1987)
A good version of the medieval arcade game.

11 KARATEKA (Atari)
Easily one of the worst fighting games ever
made. The controls work against you in battle.

GAME OF THE MONTH
COLLECTION!!
63 MS. PAC MAN
(Atari/Namco, 1987)
A very good translation of one of the coolest
arcade video games ever, almost perfect with new level selects and 5lives to
start. A good reason
to have a 7800.
For
1 or 2players
graphics: 6
sound: 6
gameplay: 7
56 POLE POSITION II (Atari/Namco, 1987)
Can't compare to the arcade racing game but
this is the best home version of Namco's Pole Position out there I know of.
For 1player only
graphics: 4
sound: 5
gameplay: 5
51 ROBOTRON 2084 (Atari, 1987)
You need two controllers to play it right just
like the original arcade game. You
remember those Smash TV types of games, this is one of the earlier type of shooters.
For
1 or 2players
graphics: 5
sound: 5
gameplay: 5
43 SCRAPYARD DOG (Atari, 1989)
A simply action platform game with unusual
controls. The 7800controller Atari gives you is no help at all as you try and
rescue your dog.
For 1player only
graphics: 4
sound: 3
gameplay: 5
50 XEVIOUS (Atari/Namco, 1987)
The basic overhead shooter with the most theme
annoying music in the world. The game is too long and unawarding. Not one of
Namco's finest arcade games anyways.
For
1 or 2players
graphics: 5
sound: 2
gameplay: 4
